Tightening your hub will keep your wheel stable
Servicing your bike regularly will make it last longer.
Description
If there's play in the bike's axle, it can damage the cup-and-cone bearings. Keeping everything tightened up will protect your bike's components. If you don't regularly tighten your hubs, your axle could get broken, which would destabilise your bike. If this were to happen, you would have to replace your entire wheel.
Removing the wheel, tightening the hub and putting the wheel back on again.
