Description
We carry out a comparative study in a thermal laboratory in walking conditions in light winds (5km/h). The comfort temperature is the calculated air temperature where 70% of users have a "slightly warm" thermal sensation. For this jacket, it’s +1.5°C. However every individual feels the cold differently.
The waterproofness of a jacket isn’t limited to just its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion. Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, the overall waterproofness of your jacket is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities. As such, this waterproof jacket protects you from a shower, i.e. 6cm of rain in 1 hour.
The waterproofness of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerbers or mm H2O (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket has a waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard) resistant to 5,000mm H2O (Schmerbers) before washing. To keep you warm in winter you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet).
The seams of a jacket can be taped to prevent water from entering that area. Here, the main seams are taped, which matches the seams of the hood, collar, shoulders, armholes and chest.
To ensure the durability of our products, we perform tests on the selected components: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, colour fastness, resistance to repeated washing.
Care products: spray or liquid water repellent treatment in the washing machine. To renew the fabric's water repellent-properties and optimise the garment's performance throughout its lifetime, we recommend using these products on every wash at a minimum.
To dress properly in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend using the 3-layer principle: layer 1: The high-tech base layer transfers moisture away from the body to keep your skin dry. layer 2: The second layer (fleece, sweater) provides warmth and transfers moisture outwards. layer 3: The jacket protects you from the outdoor conditions: rain, snow, wind. The whole outfit must be breathable in order to eliminate moisture.
